Consider the Venn diagram below. Each of the dots outside the circle represents a science experiment performed on plants in a biology class. In this experiment, 4 students are asked about their science experiment.
The students' names are Becca, Lucas, Malik, and Tina.
The two events represented in the Venn diagram are:
Event A: The student played music for their plants and measured their growth over the course of 4 weeks.
Event B: The student fertilized their plant weekly and measured their growth over the course of 4 weeks.
Lucas, Tina, and Malik said they played music for their plants. Becca and Tina said they fertilized their plant weekly.
Place the dots in the appropriate event given the information above (you may not use all of the dots), then determine if the events are mutually exclusive.
A and B are not mutually exclusive. We say that two events are mutually exclusive if they share no outcomes, that is, P(A and B)=0. Here, A and B share an outcome: Tina. Thus, P(A and B)≠0 and the events are not mutually exclusive.
Thanks
